About the Artists
Robert Hoekstra
I am not interested in representing reality. Rather, I am interested in responding to that reality through artistic interpretation. The choice of media is dictated by my response to the subject.
While previously studying figure and portrait drawing my instructor spent some time looking over my shoulder and finally asked, “What are you trying to do?” My response, “I’m not trying to draw her likeness. I’m trying to draw her soul.” His response, “Well I can help you with a likeness but I can’t help you with that.”
Representational art becomes fine art when the soul is found in the bronze, in the crystal, in the paint or in the charcoal.

I have always loved jewelry. I love the shine of the metal, the sparkle of the stone, and the way it feels as it moves in sync to your movement. Most important is the way it makes you feel when you wear a piece that captures your personality.
Most of my pieces are one of a kind because I search for unique silver items such as tableware, charms, broken jewelry, and re-purpose them. While I enjoy wearing my creations, my greatest pleasure comes from others wearing my pieces with joy.
